Symbol Assignment

For class, we had to create symbols for two careers, two famous people, and a warning symbol for ourselves.
For careers I chose a judge and chef.
for famous people I chose Marilyn Monroe and Einstein

Henry "the preserver" Mercer

I admire this dude. He was well aware to the ever-changing and increasingly speed-obsessed society he lived in. He also understood the value of simple tools and the lessons learned through traditional or old fashion techniques and processes. Mercer took a stand against the irreversible and unavoidable Industrial Revolution and it's threat to the use of traditional tools and processes and the values they promote the best way he knew how. And it is possible that he is one, if not the only, of the very few who did. He collected common artifacts and tools of his and previous times and wrote about traditional processes and locked them up in a fire proof houses. smart guy. Mercer created a kind of time capsule that can last for ever. A building made entirely of concrete and glass isn't likely to go anywhere anytime soon. His collection of artifacts span from 6,000 bc to the 1800s and is over 50,000 peices. This is a man who devoted his life the the past and the future. It is clear that Mercer did not want people to forget or to be forgotten.
